NATIONAL COUNCIL OF INVESTIGATION & SECURITY SERVICES - NCISSAboutRepresenting Private Investigators and Security professionals on a national level to keep Congress and the Administration informed of laws and regulations that impact our work. Without representation, our government would at minimum over look us, or legislate against us without considering the consequences. Private Investigators and Security professionals have a valuable role in society and protecting their ability to access information and do their jobs is paramount.Membership BenefitsLegislative Watch and Important NewsThe most important function of NCISS is to monitor and guide federal legislation. NCISS plays an important role in acting as a conduit for state legislative information. Through joint efforts and other national and state associations of related industries, our advocates keep a watch on bills which might affect our professions. Often, a law passed in a trend setting state will be adopted almost verbatim by other states wishing to follow. If an unfavorable law is enacted in one state, NCISS alerts other state associations who can take action to keep the problem from spreading. A number of important position papers have already been authored on key issues such as privacy, police moonlighting, reciprocity and use of private contractors over hiring more government employees. NCISS officers are frequently called upon to testify at congressional hearings giving our industry's viewpoint.

CYBERCRIME - CYBERBULLY RESOURCES

What Is CyberStalking?

It is a specific federal crime and falls under a federal stalking statute as part of the Violence Against Women Act of 2005. The law was amended in 2013 to include stalking by the Internet or by telephone and no longer requires that the perpetrator and victim live in different legal jurisdictions. The amended law in part makes it illegal to use “any interactive computer service or electronic communication service” to conduct activity that places a person “in reasonable fear” of death or serious bodily injury, or that causes or could cause “substantial emotional distress.” The law states the actions must be intentional.Cyberstalking is punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of $250,000. A life sentence can be imposed if the cyberstalking results in the death of a victim.

What Is CyberBullying?

Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place over digital devices like cell phones, computers, and tablets.
